How to make Canna-Butter

Difficulty: Easy Mode

You Will Need:

  • 7-14g of Decarboxylated Marijuana per cup of butter
  • Butter
  • a small pot
  • a teaspoon
  • a Magical Butter Maker
  • a 4 cup Measuring Cup
  • an Ice Cube Tray

Step One: Clarify your Butter

This is an important step. Don't ask me why, because I can't remember. There is a marked difference in your butter potency if you do this step though.

You can google that shit if you really want to know.

Put your butter in your small pot on low heat and wait for it to melt. As it melts it will get this film that rises to the top of the butter. Use a small spoon to gently scoop the film from the top.

Once there's no more film rising to the top you're good to move on to the next step!

Step Two: Put it all in the Magical Butter Maker

Put the butter into the Magical Butter Maker and add your decarboxylated marijuana. Click on the link here if you're not sure how to do this for a step by step guide using the Instant Pot!

Step Three: Turn it on and walk away

Set the Magical Butter Maker to 160ºF for 2 hours and go smoke some while you wait. I guarantee being sober for this part is boring.

Well unless you like watching the rainbow LED lights blitz around. No judgement here, you do you.

My Magical Butter Maker's timer doesn't seem to work so I also set a timer on my Alexa or my oven.

Step Four: Strain

Now you'll need to run your mixture through the straining bag the mixer comes with and into a bowl or measuring cup. If you don't have the strainer or it's not clean, cheesecloth and a sieve will work too.

Use the silicone glove that comes with the Magical Butter Maker to squeeze the bag to get out every precious drop of your mixture.

Step Five: Divide (Optional)

Once I have my butter all in my measuring cup I like to separate the mixture into an ice cube tray. Nothing fancy here, just a regular ice cube tray from Dollarama will do.

This makes it really easy to portion out for baking. A weed butter cube is approximately 2 tablespoons of butter.

Just pour it in and pop the tray in the freezer!

Once the butter cubes have solidified I usually will pop them out of the tray and then put them in a large freezer bag marked with the date using a sharpie. This will keep your butter fresh for months (if it lasts that long before you use it!)

I hope you enjoyed this! Happy baking!
